Flo’s Premium Ice Cream in Ponte Vedra Beach!
I’m ready for fall….and amazing ice cream! Flo’s recently opened in Ponte Vedra Beach, and I had the pleasure of taking pictures there with Cory and the boys as well as enjoying their homemade ice cream!
We chose Birthday cake and Oatmeal Cream Pie and got them in cones. I rarely say yes to cones because they are messy, but anything for pictures, right? We had a great experience in Flo’s. I got to sit down with the owner, Robin Crisp, to ask some questions about why they started the business. Here’s what she had to say:
Where are you from and how long have you been in PVB?
I grew up in Gainesville then moved to MD my junior year of high school and have always wanted to move back, it took me 30 years but I made it. We moved back a year ago
Why ice cream? And why now?
We’ve wanted to open an ice cream shop for 15 years. I came out of “retirement” after 20 years and was managing Talbots clothing store. I decided if I’m running a store it should be my own! Ice Cream has always been our family’s thing. We’ve traveled all around the world and we would always make a point to check out local places, getting ideas, seeing what we liked, what we didn’t, checking out product for quality and taste, the set up, shop atmosphere, etc. It started when visiting St. Augustine for our annual beach vacation and there was no ice cream on the island years ago. Every year we’d say we should do it and finally the time was right and we went for it!
What's the most popular ice cream flavor you've made so far?
Flo’s Favorite (almond joy) but chocolate is our number one seller thanks to the kids!
What's it like to open a business during a pandemic?!?!?
It was a little scary at first but we saw how restaurants were one of the only businesses that never shut down. People always have to eat and with all that was going on to have a special treat like ice cream always puts a smile on people’s faces.
